A type of king crab, brown box crab is found along the coast of Alaska down to San Diego. Up to 40% of the total weight is edible, which is high compared to other more familiar crabs. The shell is softer than other rock crabs, which makes removing the meat easier. Its legs have large chunks of meat and a nice texture. It’s soft, buttery, and flaky and has a sweet flavor, similar to Alaskan king crab. Average 2 lbs per crab. Cost is per pound.
